I am planning to take the GRP exam and would like to just study the manuals and skip going to the courses. It all adds up to so much $$$! Any thoughts from people who have taken (and passed) the exam?

Why would you want to skimp on something as specialized and new to the trade as green roof certification?  It's like taking the driver exam...you don't want to just pass by the skin of your teeth, you want to be fully competent and qualified to source, specify, sell, install and maintain the systems on the market.  For that, you need more than a few hours reading the manuals.  INVEST in yourself and take the courses, if you're truly serious about this line of work.
